Capturing Sibling Love On Film

Whether your kids are wrestling each other on the ground, sharing food and laughter, or acting goofy, these are the moments you would want to capture. If you need any more reasons as to why, the six seasons of This Is Us are a testament to the importance of documenting the little moments.

There are no hard and fast rules to how siblings show their love for each other. As a family photographer, I have helped many families capture these beautiful moments on film forever. If you are looking for tips and tricks on ways to document sibling love through sibling photography, read this guide or reach out to me directly.

Sibling Photography: 3 Tips

Here are some tried and tested ways you can get your children to pose for the camera or to capture special moments:

1. Seek Help

Getting all of your kids to pose for the camera can be difficult. When you get your hands on one, the other runs away. Instead, you can get the eldest one to help, and the others will cooperate. This is an easy trick to get all your children to pose for the camera.

You can ask your partner to draw their attention as you snap the shutter to get a picture.

2. Little But Special Moments

Most parents request photography for their children’s recitals, birthdays, and sports games. While that’s important, you shouldn’t forget the little moments. Moments when they fall asleep on the couch, when the eldest is helping the youngest with their homework, or when one is reading to the rest of the gang. These are the moments you should document.

As a family photographer, I make sure to capture in-between moments.

3. Capture Imperfection

It’s easy to wait for that perfect moment, but the beauty of sibling love lies in those imperfect moments. These imperfect moments capture the true essence of their personality and their relationship with each other.

I love images when they snuggle together, beautifully dressed and smiling for the camera. If these are the only images you want to capture, you will miss out on many beautiful memories. I capture photos that will someday remind them of their siblinghood and relationship.

How Can Shani Uritsky Capture Sibling’s Love?

I work with each family to understand their children. I like to know how children behave around each other. What type of relationship do they have? Are they teasing, huggy or playful? Even knowing that helps me document their relationship perfectly.
